Currently a candidate for Judge in Lake County’s Sixth Judicial Subcircuit, Mike Perillo served on active duty as a Navy JAG officer from 1983 through 1987. He was stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center in North Chicago (Lake County). For his service as Command Judge Advocate at Service School Command (Great Lakes), Mike was awarded a Navy Commendation Medal in 1987. The Citation for the award reads (in pertinent part) as follows:

“For meritorious service while serving as Command Judge Advocate, Service School Command, Great Lakes, Illinois from October 1985 to October 1987. Lieutenant Perillo pursued his responsibility with dogged determination, leading to the convening of over 1,300 Uniform Code of Military Justice proceedings and the achievement of improved morale and discipline among thousands of students in training. As a result of his actions, use and trafficking of controlled substances was repressed within all area commands. He prepared, with great accuracy and correctness, extensive specifications associated with a murder case which eventually played a vital part in achieving a subsequent conviction. He established an extensive working relationship with federal and local civil law enforcement agencies, resulting in prosecution of numerous crimes which might otherwise have gone undetected. His dedicated professionalism resulted in the implementation of numerous administrative improvements in the execution of military justice at Great Lakes. Lieutenant Perillo’s exceptional professionalism, initiative, and total dedication to duty reflected great credit upon himself and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.”
